Apps and websites to help along the learning process

Hello again how is everyone today. I have been pondering all day, what to blog about and how I would present the information, but yay I realized this phone can take screen shots so yay for that.

So im going to be talking about one of the well known app/computer application thing.

Anki or AnkiDroid I can only comment on the app, which is a flashcard app and it is free!!!!

So these are some of the decks I have made all for Japanese but you can get shared decks among other things and it works offline so its quite handy. Although it looks bland ita effective and it achives what it wants to do. I did get confused at first with the layout and how I was ment to do things.

The thing I dont like is I have to see the card to delete it or edit it, because sometimes the image dosn't work. its really good and I would give it a shot. You could also just make your own flash cards which will be more personal.

I will talk about Memrise which I have used both the website and the app which I love both.

Its simple to use and I find it more entertaining I love fun things because they get me to learn while thinking i'm just messing on with a game, the leader board system really adds to this esspcially if you'r a bit more competitive.

The app doesn't show you a leader board but it still has the game element to it, there are also a lot of languages on there.

What I like also is the water the plant process it makes me feel like im acomplishing something.

Italki is another website I love I have heard its similer too Lang8

You can talk to people from other countrys via messages, write notebook entrys and get corrections. You can also ask questions about languages and get answers. You can also start a discussion with the wider community.

I recently discovered  tunein radio again I have only used the app though so far.

So I listen to lots of Japanese radio on this and its amazing I have the free version so I get adverts but the adverts are not bad they pop up but the cross is big. I have only accdntly clicked it once.

There are loads of stations to listen to you can also listen to podcast and the news. Its user friendly and I haven't had much trouble with it.

I like these two websites for reading the first one for sound and second one for reading and some new vocabulary.

There are a few more sites and apps I need to talk about so watch out for that.

Vietnamese tones. O.o

Xin chào.

Okay so another language I have been learning is Vietnamese, it is a lot of fun, but I have been struggling with it but its been a fun battle.

I wanted to show what I do to always have the Vietnamese tones handy, I have a note book dedicated to Vietnamese (again notebooks are really handy)

What I did was write the alphabet with some pronunciation I found beside them, but I go on youtube to practice with the sound

Then I looked up a Vietnamese tone sheet on google images ( I did this a while ago) I then got my notebook and used a dodgy ruler to draw lines.

I used pencil to try and get it right, then I went over them in different colours, I think something you put time in to gives you more energy to learn.

I think next time I will talk about notebooks some more ^^.

I might talk about online sources that I have found to help me, some more tips yayy.

Thank you for reading this post I will probably write another one like this in the future, going over some more points that you might find useful.

Cám ơn.

Learning Japanese radicals.

 Hello Everyone.

I haven't even touched kanji yet, but I do know some which I have see a lot of times by chance and some kanji are also radicals which is a plus when you learn the radicals first.

I am past half way learning all of the radicals and I would like to share how I got here.

To start off I read this article on tofugu which I wrote down in a notebook, diffrent from my diary notebook. Another useful article on tofugu is called how to guess a kanjis stroke order which personally made me feel more at ease, and it can help with guessing the radicals stroke order too.

www.textfugu.com/radical/1-2-stroke/one/

Because I am not a member I couldn't read past it but it gave me so much inspiration so I looked up radical lists.

infohost.nmt.edu/~armiller/japanese/kanjiradical.htm

This was the first one I found then I also found.

japanese.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.nuthatch.com/kanji/demo/strokes.html

So both websites are really useful I use opera on my phone so I can save the pages. Even when I have no internet I can still practice. Yayy

Now down to business....

So then I continued from where the article left off, I then started with the list and started by writing down the radical I don't know and the name of it beside it.

Then ill write a story about it and draw a picture beside it.

I do this 8 times a day, 8 for me is a nice number, its manageable. Its not about being fast but efficient.

I use a pen with different colours on it to make each one have a different colour section, this helps me separate my radicals and it doesn't look like too much so I can still read it.

Finally I put tests in the back of my book to help me practice, test on one side and answers on the other. Writing the test also helps me to retain the information.

Also to test myself a lot. I have a plastic sheet, it is transparent, I put paper in the middle and I do my tests on that, it is cheep and tacky but it gets the job done.

Thank you for reading, I am sorry this has been so long, I hope you have a good day.

My Japanese diary and some useful tips.

こんばんはみんなさん。

The first image is of the book I have to write my diary entries, I get the entries corrected on Italki.

I try and write about my day or yesterday or what I want to do tomorrow, then I will try to add a few new words.

Grammer isn't too important but I try to get it right but I know that with Italki, I can make mistakes and not get worked up over it.

I will post about diary entries later when I write some more so hopefully I can give you some more tips.

Thank you for reading this and I hoped this helps someone somewhere, in later posts I will be posting about Japanese radicals and some other languages.
